Some recipes are written down and forgotten in a drawer.

Others become part of your story.

Bird Dog’s Award-Winning Chili is definitely the second kind.

For years, food has been one of my favorite ways to bring people together. Family dinners, football weekends, office gatherings, parties, tailgates—if people are getting together, there’s a pretty good chance I’m thinking about what we’re going to eat.

And chili has always been one of those foods that just fits.

It’s casual. It feeds a crowd. Everyone has an opinion about what belongs in it. And once the weather starts to turn, there’s nothing quite like a big pot simmering on the stove while people come and go from the kitchen.

That’s exactly why Chili Season felt like the perfect place to begin The Flavor Club.

The Chili That Keeps Bringing Home the Trophy

Bird Dog’s Chili wasn’t created in a test kitchen or dreamed up for a brand launch.

It existed long before The Flavor Club.

Over time, the recipe was tweaked, tasted, adjusted, and perfected until it became the chili people started requesting—and the chili that kept performing pretty well whenever a little friendly competition was involved.

Okay, more than pretty well.

It became an award-winning chili recipe.

And if you’ve ever entered a chili cook-off, you know people take their chili seriously.

Everyone has a secret ingredient. Everyone thinks theirs is the best. And nobody wants to give away exactly what makes their pot different.

Bird Dog’s Chili is no exception.

The recipe has stayed pretty closely guarded over the years.

Until now.

Why Chili Became Chapter One

When I started building The Flavor Club, I knew I didn’t want it to be another company that simply printed graphics on T-shirts.

The idea was always bigger than that.

I wanted each monthly chapter to start with something real—a recipe, a memory, a tradition, a place, or a story that people could actually connect with.

Then I wanted to turn that story into original hand-drawn artwork people would genuinely want to wear.

Bird Dog’s Award-Winning Chili checked every box.

It has history.

It has personality.

It has a recipe people actually want.

And most importantly, it represents exactly what The Flavor Club is about: good food, good people, and the stories that happen when you put the two together.

So Chapter One had to be Chili Season.

From Recipe to Original T-Shirt Artwork

The Chapter One T-shirt was created specifically around Bird Dog’s Chili.

Rather than using a generic food graphic, the artwork was drawn exclusively for The Flavor Club and designed to feel like something you might have discovered on a vintage sign or an old favorite restaurant tee.

The result is Bird Dog’s Award-Winning Chili, featuring the dog, the chili pot, and the trophy-inspired details that tell the story without needing a long explanation.

Like every Flavor Club chapter, the design is intended to belong to that moment.

Once the chapter closes, we move on to the next story.

That’s part of what makes the shirts special.

They aren’t meant to become a permanent catalog of designs that gets reprinted forever.

Each one marks a chapter.

The shirt tells one part of the story.

How Hot Do You Like Your Chili?

There’s one thing we know about chili people:

Everyone has a different definition of “hot.”

So alongside Chapter One, we created three Flavor Club hot sauces so you can finish the chili your way.

Rover Red is the classic option with medium heat and a tangy, savory flavor.

Garlic Red keeps the medium heat but adds a bigger garlic punch.

And Reaper Red is for the person who reads “Carolina Reaper” on a label and somehow considers that an invitation.

The sauces are available separately, so you can choose the heat level that suits you.
